Hey, everybody! Chris Gaffney back for another quick weekly tech tip video for KRS IT. This week. I have a question for you guys. I want to know what companies are still using Antivirus? That's what we're gonna talk about.
Okay, so as we do more and more network assessments, as we're going through prospects, and we're trying to see who's a good fit for our company and who we can work with, we're noticing that companies, regardless of the size, some are small, some are larger, are still using antivirus! If that's your main source of security in 2024, you guys are in big trouble, ok. Because most viruses now are coming from ransomware, live attacks, hackers, there's even software that does this kind of stuff.
Antivirus is basically,…it's going to be on a definition list. So if it's set to not let it in, then it won't let it in. But that's not going to catch certain things like ransomware and live attacks and things that most hackers are using nowadays. So ENDPOINT is something that you might want to mention it to your IT company or your person. Say, “Hey, are we on Endpoint Security?” Have them explain the difference to you. Make sure that you guys are doing something proactive when it comes to this, because antivirus just simply doesn't cut it anymore.
And even there's a new program called…Whitelisting. And what that does is basically it's a zero day threat security. By that, I mean it's basically going to only let in the things that your IT company programs them to let in. So in example, if you're on your laptop and let's say you want to download Spotify. If Spotify is not one of the already pre-approved apps, then it's not going. It’s gonna deny by default. And then your IT person or company will get an e-mail and it says: Hey, ‘so and so’ wants to install Spotify. Is this okay? And then click “YES”. BOOM, OK!! Now it's allowed through. So it's almost like having a bouncer. You know, that if you're not on the list, you're not getting in. It's kind of the same thought for your network.
So those are two things you might want to check into for your security for 2024, Endpoint security and Whitelisting. Check with your IT people, IT person and see if that's something you guys are implementing. Hope everyone's staying safe. If you guys have any questions, always e-mail info@krsit.com, and talk to you guys soon. Take care!
